CHICAGO FIRE WERE on the verge of securing a valuable away point last night in their battle to move off the bottom of the Eastern Conference in the MLS.

Kennedy Igboananike’s 62nd-minute equaliser cancelled out Blas Perez’s first-half opener for Vancouver Whitecaps, so a draw appeared to be on the cards as the game was about to enter the 88th minute.

However, Perez pounced acrobatically to steal all three points for Vancouver after — as the commentator put it — Kekuta Manneh “couldn’t get a one-timer on target”.
