Double-world champion Vlasic in Ireland — to seek Carlow man's healing touch

Vlasic hopes that work with Anthony ‘Star’ Geoghegan will help her return to full fitness.

A CARLOW THERAPIST’S magic hands could help one of the world’s top athletes shake a long-running injury.

Croatian high jumper Blanka Vlasic was in Ireland last week where she was treated by the world-renowned Anthony ‘Star’ Geoghegan.

Vlasic, 29, is a two-time world champion and an Olympic silver medallist.

But recent seasons have been dogged by a persistent Achilles’ problem which ruled her out of this year’s World Championships in Moscow.

After meeting at the Diamond League in Paris this summer, she realised that Geoghegan’s intense therapy could hold the answer.

“I saw what he can do with his hands and I invited him to come to Monte Carlo with me to treat me for three or four days,” she told Will Downing.

I have been struggling with an injury. I was operated on two years ago and still didn’t get quite healthy.

I saw that he can help me. We gave it a try for four days in Monte Carlo but he said it would take a lot more time for me to heal.

Geoghegan has long been regarded as a leading rehab therapist and has worked with a host of international superstars including Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell.

“Star has something special,” Vlasic explained.

“He has a feeling. He sees stuff that a usual doctor couldn’t notice and he knows how to treat it.

You can read a lot of books, you can finish three colleges but still you may lack that special feeling of what a person needs in order to heal completely.
