AUSTRALIA AND WARATAHS loosehead prop Benn Robinson announced his retirement today after complications arose from surgery on an eye injury.
Capped 72 times by the Wallabies and a record 155 times for the ‘Tahs, Robinson was accidentally poked in the eye by Brumbies lock Rory Arnold in April which caused microscopic hyphema – a condition where blood cells appear in front of the lens.

A statement from the Waratahs says the 31-year-old is expected to regain his full sight, but after undergoing surgery to alleviate building pressure in his eye, he has been advised that the risk of continuing to play rugby is too great.
“As a playing group we are all disappointed for Benn,” says Waratahs captain Dave Dennis, “having to end his career as a result of his eye injury. Benn has been the cornerstone of our scrum for over a decade and has been a loyal servant in the Waratahs jersey.
“More importantly Benn has been a great team man who has added immensely to the history of our club. All players, past and present, have enjoyed having his likeable personality amongst our team.”
