11 Premier League players in star-studded Belgium squad that'll face Ireland at Euro 2016

They’ve got a bit of firepower, it’s fair to say.

THE REPUBLIC OF Ireland now know exactly what they’ll be up against when they play Belgium next month at Euro 2016.

In their second Group E game, which takes place in Bordeaux on 18 June, Martin O’Neill’s side will take on one of the pre-tournament favourites, who announced their squad this morning.

It’s a star-studded panel of 24 players, which will be trimmed to 23 before the deadline on 1 June — which may be geared towards accommodating Liverpool striker Divock Origi, who’s still trying to shake off an ankle injury he sustained against Everton last month.

There are 11 Premier League players in the selection, although captain Vincent Kompany isn’t one of them. The Manchester City defender announced last week that’ll he miss the tournament due to injury. Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard will wear the captain’s armband in Kompany’s absence.

Belgium manager Marc Wilmots has also placed seven players on a standby list, which includes Everton striker Kevin Mirallas and Tottenham midfielder Nacer Chadli.
