Over the coming weeks, the German champions will establish a ‘training camp’ for children and youths to train at the club in between German language classes and free meals.
In addition, they have also promised to donate €1 million raised through a friendly match to refugee support projects. The news comes as thousands of migrants flee Syria for Europe.
“Germany is currently experiencing its greatest influx of refugees for many decades,” the statement reads.
“This presents a special challenge to the state and society. FC Bayern München will play an active part in meeting the challenge and, working closely with the city of Munich and state of Bavaria, contribute financial, material and practical help.”
We at FC Bayern consider it our socio-political responsibility to help displaced and needy children, women and men, supporting and assisting them in Germany,” added chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Furthermore, the Bayern players will be accompanied to the pitch by both a German and refugee child to signify integration at their next home game — against Augsburg on 12 September.
