BAYERN MUNICH MADE it three wins from three Bundesliga games yesterday evening after a 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen but it was a pretty special performance for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, when the lineups were announced, many wondered what Bayern’s defence was going to look like, considering only three defenders were named in the starting XI and they were all full-backs by trade – Philipp Lahm, Juan Bernat and David Alaba.
But, the trio did make up the rearguard in what was a 3-1-3-3 formation – Alaba the more central of the three while Xabi Alonso patrolled in front of the defence. Thiago, Thomas Muller and Arturo Vidal were further forward while up top, Robert Lewandowski was flanked by Arjen Robben and Douglas Costa.
The Brazilian was superb throughout and capped one a virtuoso individual performance with this moment of divine trickery after Bayern went 3-0 up through Muller’s brace and Robben’s penalty.
No centre backs & outrageous Douglas Costa - Bayern's win yesterday was all kinds of ridiculous
