Geraghty makes debut as McManus' retained jockey, but made wait for win after injury return

The Meathman had to settle for second after three months out with a shin injury.

MEATHMAN BARRY GERAGHTY made a return from injury as he made his bow as the new retained jockey for JP McManus after Tony McCoy’s retirement.

Geraghty was confirmed as McCoy’s successor a fortnight ago, but had to wait to slip in to the familiar green and yellow silks again as he completed a three-and-a-half month stint out of action with a broke shin bone.

Despite only finishing sixth in his first ride back on Aidan O’Brien’s Waver in Limerick today, the 35-year-old was content just to be back in competition.

It’s brilliant, great [to get the McManus job] and that was a nice introduction.

Geraghty’s second mount Hash Brown had been backed into 11-8 favourite before the off, but was unable to reel in Sizing Platinum over the final hurdles.
