Messi named in Barcelona squad for Aviva Stadium meeting with Celtic

The Spanish champions play the Scottish title winners in Dublin on Saturday.

BARCELONA HAVE NAMED Lionel Messi in their squad to play Celtic in Dublin this weekend.

The Argentine star wasn’t expected to be involved in Saturday’s International Champions Cup game at the Aviva Stadium (6pm) as he took a belated holiday after the Copa American Centenario final loss to Chile.

However, news emerged yesterday that the 29-year-old had cut that break short in order to link up with his team-mates at their training camp at St George’s Park in England.

Now he joins fellow first-team players Luis Suarez, Arda Turan, Munir El Haddadi, Sergi Roberto, Adriano, Aleix Vidal, Jeremy Mathieu, Denis Suarez, Sergi Samper, Cristian Tello and Martin Montoya on the 25-man panel for the friendly with the Scottish Premiership champions.

Celtic, who are involved in a two-legged Champions League third qualifying round tie against Astana either side of the game, have named a strong squad, which includes Irish defender Eoghan O’Connell and new signing Moussa Dembele — although Kolo Toure does not make it after joining yesterday.

The press release adds that both squads are subject to change due to injuries, however.

Tickets for the game started at €40 and €15 for children, but the only ones that remain on Ticketmaster are priced at a whopping €80.
