A WATERFORD SENIOR hurling quarter-final had to be abandoned last night due to floodlight failure at the Fraher Field in Dungarvan.

The incident occurred with 15 minutes remaining in the game between defending champions Ballygunner – who are bidding for three-in-a-row in 2016 – and Abbeyside.

At the time Abbeyside were ahead 1-10 to 0-10 when the blackout happened. There was a 12-minute delay before it was decided to abandon the game.

Waterford GAA chiefs have apologised for the incident with the match now refixed for next Sunday at 5pm with admission set to be free of charge.

The result coupled with a draw after extra-time yesterday between city rivals De La Salle and Mount Sion, means the semi-final line-up has yet to be confirmed in Waterford.

It finished Mount Sion 1-21 De La Salle 0-24 after the clash in Walsh Park with the replay penciled in for next Sunday afternoon at 2pm.

Two clubs did book Waterford senior hurling semi-final spots this weekend with 2012 finalists Dungarvan and 2013 champions Passage both claiming quarter-final victories.

Dungarvan saw off Roanmore on Friday night by 3-23 to 2-16 while Passage beat Fourmilewater by 0-17 to 1-12 on Sunday afternoon.
