More fixtures madness as Waterford champions face 2 games in 24 hours

The Déise’s finest will face Nemo Rangers in the AIB Munster club championship on Saturday, a day after contesting a county final.

THERE’S A DUBIOUS reward in store for the winners of Saturday’s JJ Kavanagh & Sons Waterford senior football final.

Ballinacourty and Stradbally will face off at Fraher Field in Dungarvan on Friday evening (8pm) for county honours but the AIB Munster SFC quarter-final against Cork kingpins Nemo Rangers has been fixed for the same venue, on the following day, at 7pm.

Tight schedules have left provincial fixtures-makers with little or no room for manoeuvre and the winners of Sunday’s provincial clash will have to go again seven days later against Kerry representatives Legion or Dingle at the semi-final stage.

It’s far from an ideal scenario but surely there could be some room for leeway, especially when club players are crying out for games during the summer before facing into a packed schedule when the intercounty campaigns draw to a close.

With precious little recovery time, Ballinacourty or Stradbally will be ranked as outsiders to spring a surprise against Munster club specialists Nemo Rangers, who will have had a fortnight off since winning the Leeside silverware.
