The Cork natives have been named in a second-string side by manager Martin O’Neill, while Preston pair Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle — the two other uncapped players in the squad — are both on the bench.

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood comes in to replace number one Darren Randolph, and Cyrus Christie begins his spell deputising for Seamus Coleman as he recovers from a double leg-break.

Egan partners Derby County’s Alex Pearce at centre-half, with captain for the night Robbie Brady making up the back four.

Hourihane will be joined by Jeff Hendrick in midfield, while James McClean and Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayers are likely to occupy the wings.

That leaves the in-form Aiden McGeady to play in behind lone striker Kevin Doyle.

IRELAND: Westwood; Christie, Pearce, Egan, Brady (c); Hendrick, Hourihane, McClean, McGeady, Hayes; K Doyle.

Substitutes: Randolph, C Doyle, Keogh, Gleeson, Ward, Meyler, Long, Boyle, Horgan, O’Dowda, O’Kane.
