AUSTRALIA HAVE BEEN crowned Asian Cup champions for the first time after a drama-filled final against South Korea in front of a 76,000-strong crowd in Sydney.
Reports earlier this week suggested certain countries wanted to oust the hosts from future competitions but this victory will prove the perfect tonic.
The game had everything – flicks, tricks and some great goals too.

It was the first goal Korea had conceded in the tournament but they kept in touch and gave themselves a chance to snatch something.
They took their time though and it wasn’t until injury-time that they conjured a leveller.
Son Heung-Min raced through and dispatched a cool, calm finish inside Matt Ryan’s near post to ensure an extra 30 minutes of football.
As the extra-time interval approached, Australia reclaimed the lead and it was down to the enterprising skills of Tomi Juric.
Seemingly trapped between two Korean defenders on the by-line, he managed to keep possession, spin past them and send in a low cross. The Korean goalkeeper Kim could only palm the ball in the direction of James Troisi and he dispatched what-proved the winning goal to the net.
