Aston Villa defender makes Rose of Tralee cameo but nobody has a clue who he is

It’s difficult not to cringe watching this.

WHILE TV3 SHOWED Manchester United’s Champions League play-off with Club Brugge, there was a contest of a different kind over on RTÉ 1 last night.

The Rose of Tralee never fails to throw up an endless supply of cringeworthy moments and this year was no exception.

When German Rose Roisin Ni Mathuna, a self-proclaimed Aston Villa fan who was born in Birmingham but grew up in Rush, Co Dublin, was joined on stage by the FA Cup, she was left speechless.

As part of the surprise, Villa defender Leandro Bacuna appeared in a video message to wish Roisin the best of luck.

However, it quickly became clear that neither she nor presenter Dáithí Ó Sé had the slightest idea who the Dutch defender was.
