CHELSEA HAVE ANNOUNCED the signing of Bosnian goalkeeper Asmir Begovic from Stoke City.

The 28-year-old joins the Premier League champions on a four-year deal, having spent the past five years with the Potters.

With Petr Cech moving to Arsenal, Begovic, who cost around €11 million (£8m), will be Chelsea’s second choice goalkeeper behind Thibaut Courtois.

‘I am very happy to be joining Chelsea FC,” Begovic said. “After speaking at length to the manager, I feel like I can develop here and be an important part of this team.

“I am looking forward to meeting up with the team on Wednesday for the pre-season tour.’

Stoke signed Shay Given last week and the Ireland international will battle it out with Jack Butland for the number one jersey at the Britannia Stadium.
