Ex-England and Chelsea star joins Robbie Keane and Steve Gerrard in LA

35-year-old full-back Ashley Cole has made the switch to the MLS.

LA GALAXY HAVE announced the arrival of Ashley Cole on a free transfer.

The 35-year-old ex-Arsenal, Chelsea and England defender will link up with former international team-mate Steve Gerrard and Ireland skipper Robbie Keane at the five-time MLS Cup champions.

Cole last played for Roma after joining in the summer of 2014 but his contract was terminated by mutual consent with a year left to run earlier this month.

“Ashley is one of the world’s most successful defenders and has played at the highest level of competition throughout his career,” said LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena.

“He can provide our defence with valuable experience. We look forward to his contribution to our club this season.”

The Galaxy begin their 2016 league campaign against DC United on 6 March.
