'He mentioned that he's coming to the end': Ian Wright reveals details of Wenger conversation

The former Gunners’ striker believes the 67-year-old will step down as Arsenal boss at the end of the season.

ARSENAL LEGEND IAN WRIGHT says that a conversation he had with Arsene Wenger on Thursday night leads him to believe that the manager is close to walking away from the club.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Wright said he thinks the 67-year-old could leave as early as the end of the current campaign.

“I was with the boss last night and if I’m going to be totally honest, I get the impression that that’s it”, Wright said.

I was with him for a few hours and we’re talking and he obviously didn’t say ‘I’m leaving at the end of the season’ but I get the impression, even by looking at him, that that’s it. He actually mentioned while we were talking that he’s coming to the end. I’ve never heard him say that”.

He looks winded, like someone’s just whopped him in the stomach. If someone asked me, ‘Do you think he’ll leave at the end of the season?’ I think he will”.

Wenger has, once again, come under intense scrutiny as the Gunners have suffered back-to-back defeats in the league – to Watford and Chelsea – while they also dropped costly points against Bournemouth.

Their poor form has seen them slip 12 points behind leaders Chelsea and has led to renewed calls for Wenger to step aside.

He’s been in charge since 1996 and has led the team to three Premier League titles – the last of which came in 2004. He has also overseen six FA Cup triumphs, including back-to-back successes in 2014 and 2015.

In 2006, Arsenal reached the Champions League final but they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona.
