Arsenal complete their first signing of the January window

23-year-old Mohamed Elneny arrives from FC Basel for a reported €6.6 million.

ARSENAL HAVE CONFIRMED a deal for FC Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

The 23-year-old, who is capped 39 times for Egypt, is believed to have cost around £5million (€6.6m) and joins after three seasons with the Swiss champions.

A versatile player who can play in a defensive role or box-to-box, Elneny will provide cover for the likes of Santi Cazorla and Franicis Coquelin.

And the new signing is determined to silence his critics and show that he has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League, as there have been questions over whether he is the right man for the job.

He insists he’s looking forward to wearing the Arsenal jersey and is ready to prove his worth.

“It is a big move for me. A lot of people think I will not be able to replicate my performances for Basel at Arsenal, but I want to prove the entire world wrong,” he told the Basel website.

It is a huge step for me and a dream come true. I want to show the world that I am a good player.

“One of my first games with Arsenal will be against Barcelona. That will be a huge game and I hope I will be playing.”
