DEFENDING CHAMPIONS ARDSCOIL Rís will return to the semi-final stage of the Dr Harty Cup this year after today’s 1-16 to 1-11 victory over Cork’s Hamilton HS Bandon.

The Limerick school triumphed by five points at the game in Charleville, which was moved from the original venue of Mallow due to an unplayable pitch.

It had previously been postponed last Wednesday due to poor weather conditions but when the action eventual took place, Ardscoil Rís repeated their victory in last February’s Dr Harty Cup semi-final over the Bandon school.

Ardscoil Rís – whose management team includes Limerick senior hurlers Niall Moran and Barry Hennessy along with Clare’s Paul Flanagan – were ahead by 0-8 to 0-7 at the break.

Their star man Ronan Lynch, a Limerick minor for the last three years, hit the net in the 44th minute to send them into a 1-10 to 0-10 lead. They then tacked on four points without reply and eventually ran out five-point winners.

Ardscoil Rís join Tipperary’s Thurles CBS and Cork’s Rochestown College, who have already qualified for the last four stage.

The last of this year’s quarter-finals takes place on Wednesday between Limerick’s Castletroy College and PS Na Trionoide (Youghal).
