ANNIE POWER’S FALL at the last in the Mares’ Hurdle wrecked the dreams of many punters today at Cheltenham and left the bookies breathing a huge sigh of relief.

Wins for the well-backed Ruby Walsh-ridden favourites Douvan, Un De Sceaux and Faugheen had seen the bookies take a hammering but the last leg of many accumulators was Annie Power.

It was all going according to the script as the mare approached the final hurdle and Ladbrokes have estimated that the bookies were facing up to losses in excess of £50 million at that stage.

But the dramatic fall saved them.

Hard to think of anyone more sickened than this punter though.
