Brilliant bronze for Ireland's Anna Turvey at European Track Championships

The 36-year-old finished third in the Women’s Individual Pursuit in Paris.

IRELAND’S ANNA TURVEY has this evening won her first international medal after storming to a brilliant bronze at the UEC European Track Championships in Paris.

The 36-year-old saw off Belarusian Ina Savenka in the bronze medal final of the Women’s Individual Pursuit to finish in third behind Katie Archibald and Justyna Kaczkowska.

Turvey, who was born in England, represented Scotland previously and recently declared for Ireland, will be presented with her medal at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome later this evening.

“I’m ecstatic and shocked,” she said afterwards.

“I can’t believe it. I knew I was going well in the Time Trial, because I had been focusing on it for Doha, but it’s just unbelievable. I wasn’t planning on coming here, but someone got injured so I said I’d race.

“I came straight from Doha, and was a bit scared because I wasn’t on the velodrome for ages, but was okay after a few days.”
