Highly-regarded Man United youngster catches the eye, grabs stunner in World Cup opener

Still just 17, Angel Gomes has already made his senior debut under Jose Mourinho.

THE UNDER-17 World Cup is already underway in India and the first slate of group-stage games were completed earlier today.

In Group F, England made light work of Chile and put four goals past them.

17-year-old Jadon Sancho, who contentiously moved from Manchester City to Borussia Dortmund in the summer in the search for more first-team playing time, grabbed a brace while a highly-rated Manchester United youngster also caught the eye.

Angel Gomes is captain of the club’s Under-18 side and has been on the fringes of the senior side, making his debut against Crystal Palace on the final day of last season.

He was also handed the armband for his country’s opener in Kolkata and curled in a magnificent free-kick with 10 minutes left to add further gloss to the scoreline.
