RUGBY LEAGUE WILL be played at Anfield for the first time in 19 years when the Four Nations final is staged at Liverpool’s iconic stadium this November.
Not since St Helens faced Castleford Tigers in 1997 has Anfield played host to a rugby league match, but the winners of the 2016 Four Nations will be decided on Merseyside on 20 November later this year.
Coventry’s Ricoh Arena will stage a double-header on 5 November when England and Scotland lock horns followed by a clash between champions New Zealand and Australia.
New Zealand and Scotland will meet in Workington on 11 November, with England coming up against Australia at London’s Olympic Stadium two days later.
Four Nations tournament director Jon Dutton said: “We are delighted with the venues selected for the 2016 Four Nations and we are sure that the tournament will deliver compelling and memorable action on the field.
“Anfield is an iconic sporting venue and I am certain that all teams will be determined to reach the final to play in front of what will be a very special atmosphere.”
Old Trafford hosts the Super League final each year while the Etihad Stadium has also staged rugby league fixtures in the last few years.
