Pirlo and Villa combined beautifully as Vieira's NYC picked up rare win

It’s not been the best of managerial starts for the legendary former Arsenal skipper.

IT HASN’T BEEN the easiest of debut managerial seasons for Patrick Vieira.

The former Arsenal captain has been with MLS side New York City FC since the start of the year though the club has struggled.

They headed into their Saturday clash with the Vancouver Whitecaps, they’d won once from their first eight games.

But, the best part of their campaign so far has been the form of David Villa.

The Spanish striker hit 18 goals in 29 starts in his first MLS season last year and has been sparkling this term too.

He managed another brace against the Canadian side this weekend to take his tally to six from nine appearances.

His second goal was an absolute peach too.

Andrea Pirlo swung the corner to the far post and the 35-year-old threw himself in the air to acrobatically volley to the bottom corner.

NYC held on for the 3-2 win – their first home win of the season.
