Irish abroad:Ipswich Town are closing in on the signing of Brentford midfielder Jonathan Douglas. Douglas – capped eight times by Ireland – is understood to be undergoing a medical at the club’s Playford Road training centre this afternoon.

Done deal: Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Connor Wickham from Sunderland on a five-year deal for an initial fee of £7m. The 22-year-old striker scored 15 goals in 91 appearances for the Wearsiders.

On the move: Lyon are closing in on the signing of Brazilian right-back Rafael da Silva from Manchester United, according to The Guardian. Louis Van Gaal had told the defender he was free to leave United this summer after being left out of the squad for the pre-season tour of the United States.

Conflicting Reports: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed reports linking Real Madrid 27-year-old striker Karim Benzema with a move to the Emirates. But AS claim Wenger has set aside £45.6m to bring the Frenchman to London.

Snubbed: Wolfsburg boss Dieter Hecking believes midfielder Kevin de Bruyne will turn down the chance to sign for Manchester City, according to the Manchester Evening News.
