BRENTFORD’S HEAD OF medical is confident that Alan Judge will return fitter and stronger after successfully undergoing surgery to repair his broken leg.
The Ireland international fractured his lower leg against Ipswich Town on Saturday following a hefty challenge from Luke Hyam.
The injury put an end to the 27-year-old’s season, as well as his hopes of making Ireland’s Euro 2016 squad.

Brentford confirmed that the Dublin native came through surgery on the injury on Monday and the club’s head of medical Neil Greig was positive in his assessment of the situation, though he was unable to give a conclusive timescale for the midfielder’s full recovery.
“Following a fracture injury to his lower leg during Saturday’s game, Alan last night (Monday) underwent successful surgery to repair the injury and will now begin the early stages of recovery,” Greig said in a statement which was posted on the club’s official website.
Whilst the injury is clearly significant, Alan has been placed under the care of the leading lower limb consultant in the country, whose experience in managing such injuries in unparalleled. As such, there is every confidence that we will achieve a positive outcome.
“Alan is a determined character and I have no doubt that he will commit fully to the challenge of returning fitter and stronger than before. He will continue to receive the fullest support from the outstanding group of medical and conditioning staff at BFC during what is clearly a difficult time for him and his family.
“It is too early to speculate on recovery timescales at this stage and we will provide further information as we are able to.”
Judge made 38 appearances in the Championship this season, scoring 14 goals.
The former Blackburn Rovers midfielder made his senior Ireland debut in the 1-0 friendly win against Switzerland last month.
