IRISH YOUNGSTER ALAN Browne helped inspire a fightback as Preston ultimately drew 2-2 with Birmingham at St Andrew’s last night.

With the visitors trailing 2-0, Browne volleyed home Tom Clarke’s cross to give his side hope on 73 minutes.

Another Irish player, full-back Greg Cunningham, then equalised with a minute of normal time to play, blasting home from close range.

Former Sligo and Shamrock Rovers striker Eoin Doyle also played 72 minutes for Preston, while Dublin-born midfielder Stephen Gleeson came on in the 39th minute for the hosts.

It has been an encouraging season for 21-year-old Browne, who had spells at Ringmahon Rangers and Cork City early on in his career.

The young midfielder has made 37 appearances in all competitions for Preston this season, scoring three goals.

The Cork native was linked with Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Bournemouth during the last transfer window, before signing a new deal with his current club back in March.

Browne has made a number of appearances for Ireland at both U19 and U21 level, while it may be only a matter of time before the starlet makes his senior debut if he continues to progress at his current rate.
