PRESTON TOOK A 1-0 lead against Arsenal through Callum Robinson in the FA Cup at Deepdale this evening, with Irish international Aiden McGeady having a big hand in the goal.
Arsenal subsequently equalised thanks to a powerful Aaron Ramsey strike from the edge of the box early in the second half, before Olivier Giroud’s clinical finish won it for the Gunners.
Earlier in the match, 30-year-old winger McGeady evaded his marker before playing an incisive through pass to Jordan Hugill, who failed to the control it, but the ball broke to Robinson, who produced a simple sidefoot finish.
McGeady was one of two Irish internationals, along with Greg Cunningham, who started for Preston this evening.
Meanwhile, three Irish players — Daryl Horgan, Eoin Doyle and Alan Browne — were on the bench, though there was no place in the matchday squad for Andy Boyle, who the club recently signed from Dundalk.
