MANCHESTER CITY STRIKER Sergio Aguero “sustained injuries” in a car crash in the Netherlands, the club has confirmed.

Media in Aguero’s home country Argentina had been covering the accident for some hours before it was confirmed to the British press.

“Sergio Aguero will be assessed by club doctors today after being involved in a road accident on Thursday. The City forward was in Holland on his day off and has sustained injuries,” said Manchester City’s statement.

The prolific 29-year-old will return to Manchester this morning and will be assessed ahead of City’s Premier League clash at Chelsea tomorrow.

Dutch police previously told Sky News that two individuals were hospitalised after the taxi in which they were travelling struck a lamp-post – however their names were not confirmed.

Police spokesman Frans Zuiderhoek told AFP that officers attended an accident in the city at around 10pm Irish time after “a taxi cab hit a lamp-post”.

He could not confirm the identities of the two passengers and the driver, who all asked to remain anonymous.

“No other vehicles were involved,” he said early this morning, adding that the three people in the taxi “have been transferred to hospital for observation… but there were no bad injuries”.

The accident occurred on De Boelelaan street, said Zuiderhoek, not far from the Arena A where Colombian singer Maluma performed last night.

It’s believed that Aguero was in Amsterdam to attend a concert by the singer, and that he was travelling to Schiphol Airport to catch a flight back to Manchester when the accident happened.

The striker had posted a picture of himself with Maluma to his Instagram account earlier in the evening thanking him for an invitation.

Argentinian daily newspaper El Dia reports that Aguero has fractured a rib and will miss the forthcoming international fixtures with Peru and Ecuador.

Aguero has been playing for the Manchester club in the Premier League since 2011, winning two Premier Leagues in that time..

Although rumours had surrounded the relationship between Aguero and City manager Pep Guardiola in recent times, the striker has started the 2016-17 season with a bang, and currently stands top of the scoring charts with six goals from six games.
