IVORY COAST  WERE held by Guinea in their opening game of this year’s African Cup of Nations this afternoon.

With the likes of the Toure brothers, Wilfried Bony, Gervinho and Cheick Tiote in their starting XI, the Elephants are one of the tournament favourites as they look to end a 23-year wait under Frenchman Herve Renard — who led Zambia to victory in 2012.

It didn’t begin well for the perennial underachievers however, and Guinea took a 36th-minute lead through Mohamed Yattare after some pretty awful defending from Serge Aurier.

To make matters worse, Gervinho was shown a red card for shoving Naby Keita in the face.

With 18 minutes on the clock, however, substitute Seydou Doumbia equalised with a neat finish to earn his side a 1-1 draw.
