Micky Adams has left Sligo and is returning to England for 'family reasons'

The former Leicester and Brighton boss took charge of the club for 11 games this season.

DESPITE GUIDING SLIGO Rovers to safety, Micky Adams will not be extending his stay at the club beyond this season.

Sligo ultimately secured their top-flight status as the campaign drew to a close, with an impressive 2-0 victory over St Pat’s one of the highlights of Adams’ time in charge.

However, a statement from the club confirmed that the former Leicester and Brighton manager was returning to England for “family reasons,” after helping the club earn 15 points in his 11 games at the helm.

On his departure, Adams explained: “I have really enjoyed my time with Sligo Rovers. I was given a task of keeping the club in the Premier Division and I’m delighted we achieved that. I hope I brought a professional approach to the club from the time here.

“I have had to make a very difficult decision that for family reasons I will return to England. It is never an easy decision to put yourself out of work but I have to put my family first.

“I want to thank the people of Sligo and the committee for the wonderful welcome we received during our time here.

“I also want to express my gratitude to the players for their hard work and the staff as well. I wish everyone at Sligo Rovers the very best for the future.”

The club added that the board would meet to discuss the appointment of a new manager this evening.

The statement added: “We can also confirm the consultation forum with supporters on the future of the club organised by Rally Around Rovers will take place next week.

“This is a very important time for the club – and an opportunity to begin a new era with a fresh approach on and off-the-field. The committee will endeavour over the coming weeks to make that path a successful one.”
