Highly-rated Irish youngster Adam Idah grabs blistering FA Youth Cup hat-trick

The Cork native only joined Norwich City in the summer but he’s showing superb form.

CORKMAN ADAM IDAH has hit the ground running since joining Norwich City from College Corinthians in the summer and showcased his talents with another eye-catching display tonight.

The teenage striker, who has shone for the Republic of Ireland Under-17 side over the last two seasons and featured for the Under-18s too, conjured a blistering 10-minute hat-trick as the Canaries claimed a 4-1 FA Youth Cup victory over Barnsley at Carrow Road.

They’ll now meet either Manchester United or Derby in the fourth round.

Idah, who is still only 16, has been crucial to both club and country this term.

He netted seven times in three European Championship qualifiers, including a hat-trick in a 6-0 demolition of Azerbaijan, as Colin O’Brien’s Irish outfit ensured a spot in the Elite Round of the competition next March.

Idah has also starred for Norwich this season and recently scored against Manchester City in a 2-2 draw, a result that secured the team’s place in the next stage of the Under-18 Premier League Cup.

The club moved for Idah after he impressed during the summer’s European Championship.

He scored the winner against Bosnia in a crucial group-stage win and led the line as the Irish narrowly lost to England in the quarter-finals.

In qualifying, he was prolific and found the net eight times in 10 games.

It’s proven to be a shrewd move from Norwich and Idah has shown little difficulty in making the step up to an elite level across the water.

Here’s hoping he can continue to turn in such impressive performances.
