Italian giants AC Milan appoint a sixth manager in two years

Vincenzo Montella is the latest man in charge.

ITALIAN SOCCER GIANTS AC Milan have turned to Vincenzo Montella to try and revive their ailing fortunes.

Montella joins the club after leaving his post with Sampdoria, having previously been in charge of Fiorentina.

As a player Montella was best known for his stints with Sampdoria and Roma, winning a Serie A title with the latter in 2000-01.

On the international stage, Montella was part of Giovanni Trappatoni’s Italian squad at the 2002 World Cup and at club level he also had a brief loan spell with Fulham in 2007.

Montella was announced as Cristian Brocchi’s replacement last night, making him AC Milan’s sixth coach since Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri was sacked in 2014.

Allegri is the last manager to have steered AC Milan to title glory when they claimed honours in 2010-11. Since Allegri departed, Mauro Tassotti (caretaker), Clarence Seedorf, Filippo Inzaghi, Sinisa Mihajlovic, Cristian Brocchi and now Montella have all had spells at the helm.

Montella will be seeking to rebuild the Italian giants to their former glories, following last season’s seventh-place finish in the Serie A – which ensures they will face another campaign without European football – and a runners-up finish in the Coppa Italia.
