CARL FRAMPTON WILL fight in Belfast for the first time in more than two years next month as he bids to get back to winning ways.
‘The Jackal’ suffered the first defeat of his professional career in January when losing his rematch and WBA super-featherweight title to Mexico’s Leo Santa Cruz by majority decision.
Frampton had hoped to face Santa Cruz for a third time or for a bout with Wales’ Lee Selby but a fight against either of those two appears unlikely for now.
IBF champion Selby must first face mandatory challenger Johnny Barros of Argentina, while Santa Cruz is being lined up for a showdown with compatriot Abner Mares.
Frampton’s opponent for the 29 July Belfast bout, his first in the city since February 2015, will be named in the next week or so.
