Four European cities and one from the United States are in the running.

THE FIVE CITIES that will bid to host the 2024 Olympics have been confirmed this morning.

Four European cities are in the running with Budapest, Hamburg, Paris and Rome all vying to host while Los Angeles is the solitary American representative.

The International Olympic Committee today named the final candidates with IOC president Thomas Bach stating there were five “outstanding cities” in the race for the Games which will be decided in 2017.

Next summer the 2016 Olympics will take place in Brazil in Rio De Janeiro while the 2020 Olympics will be held in Japan in Tokyo.

Budapest and Hamburg will be bidding to host the Games for the first time while Los Angeles (1932 and 1984) and Paris (1900 and 1924) have both twice previously acted as hosts.

Rome last hosted the Games in 1960.
