Joy of six for University of Limerick as 2015 Collingwood Cup kicks off

UL, TCD and Queen’s all booked their places in the last eight today.

UNIVERSITY OF LIMERICK put six past University of Ulster Coleraine on the opening morning of the 2015 Collingwood Cup.

Shane Harrington and Oisin McMenamin scored a goal apiece and Conor Maguire bagged a first-half double as UL raced into a 4-0 lead at the Dangan Pavilion.

Jordan Dane got one back for UUC after the break before late goals from Brian Donovan and Garbhan Coughlan completed a rout for the Limerick men.

They face Trinity College in Tuesday’s quarter-finals after the Dublin side beat the Royal College of Surgeons 2-0 thanks to goals from Darren O’Donoghue and John McDonagh.

There was an upset in the afternoon game as Queen’s University Belfast beat Mary Immaculate 2-0 to set up a last eight clash with UCD.

Holders Maynooth University open their defence tomorrow against UCC, while DCU take on NUI Galway.
